Petition to the House of Commons
Whereas:
- Transportation is a basic need, especially in remote areas;
- Taxes on public transportation fares make them unaffordable for the poorest users;
- Transportation service providers are struggling to maintain adequate schedules and universal routes;
- Public transportation services are effective at helping to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions; and
- Users of these services should be encouraged as they help reduce congestion and GHG emissions.
We, the undersigned, users of public transportation services in Canada, call upon the House of Commons in Parliament assembled to remove the tax (GST/HST) from intercity bus and passenger train fares.
