e-4995 (Taxation)

E-petition
Initiated by Ludovick Nadeau from Sherbrooke, Quebec

Original language of petition: French

Petition to the House of Commons

Whereas:
  • Self-employed workers make up a significant part of the Canadian economy;
  • Filing tax returns is more complex for self-employed workers than for salaried individuals;
  • The Income Tax Act already recognizes the above reasons by allowing self-employed workers additional time to file their tax returns; and
  • The majority of self-employed workers have a tax balance owing when filing their return.
We, the undersigned, electors of Canada, call upon the House of Commons to amend the Income Tax Act in order to bring the filing and payment dates for self-employed workers into line by setting the payment date to June 15, the current filing deadline.
