Petition to the House of Commons in Parliament assembled

Whereas:
  • Unvaccinated Canadians are still not allowed to board a plane, bus, train, or ferry in Canada, or to even leave the country, a flagrant violation of Section 6 of our Charter of Rights and Freedoms;
  • The loss of freedom to travel has created a lot of pain for many Canadians, from missed weddings, births, funerals, family reunions, and vacations, to the unenrollment of university students and loss of employment, making it difficult for families to feed their children;
  • Vaccinated or not, everyone can equally transmit the virus;
  • The science community has already acknowledged that vaccines do not prevent infection or transmission of the COVID-19 virus, both Dr. Keiran Moore, Ontario's Chief Medical Officer and Dr. Tam, Federal Chief Medical Officer agree its time to reassess the value of the vaccine passports because of their diminishing effectiveness;
  • All provinces and territories have either already dropped their public health restrictions, or are about to, as have most countries around the world; and
  • Travel restrictions don't make sense as they're not going to keep Omicron out or any other variant for that matter, and are an infringement on rights and freedoms that cannot be justified in a free and democratic society.
We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the House of Commons in Parliament assembled to end the pointless and discriminatory federal travel restrictions as they no longer have a measurable health benefit.

Response by President of the Treasury Board and Minister of Transport

Signed by (Minister or Parliamentary Secretary): Vance Badawey

As of June 20, 2022, the Government of Canada suspended vaccination requirements for domestic and outbound travel, the federally regulated transportation sector, and federal government employees. Proof of vaccination is no longer required for travel within Canada or for those working in the federally regulated transportation sector, and accommodations for remote communities are also no longer necessary.

Other public health measures, under the authority of the Public Health Agency of Canada, such as border entry restrictions, passenger testing, masking, quarantine and isolation requirements were also lifted on October 1, 2022.
