Petition to the Government of Canada

Whereas:
  • Canada has one of the highest vaccination rates in the world;
  • A growing number of issues are being reported by Canadian travellers at destination, including inaccuracy of tests (false positives), exorbitant price gouging, lateness of results, reports of people obtaining counterfeit tests, with some labs contracted by resorts providing falsified results to keep guests for extended stays at their own expense;
  • There is an expanding list of countries who have removed all testing requirements for vaccinated travellers at their borders, including but not limited to the U.K., Switzerland, Sweden, Spain, Germany, France and Denmark, and the latest scientific evidence suggests that now is the time for Canada to consider doing the same; and
  • A recent poll of Canadian travel advisors showed that the inbound testing requirement is the single largest barrier to the full recovery of Canada’s international travel industry.
We, the undersigned, citizens of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to remove the pre-arrival negative COVID-19 testing requirement for Canadian travellers.

Response by the Minister of Health

Signed by (Minister or Parliamentary Secretary): Yasir Naqvi

Currently, Canada does not require COVID-19 testing or vaccination for incoming travellers. Since March 2023, no pre- arrival testing requirements have been in place.

Travelers should be aware that some countries may still require a negative COVID-19 test for entry, or have specific testing protocols in place; however, these are not requirements set by the Government of Canada.

Canadians planning travel abroad are encouraged to visit the travel advice and advisories page for more information on their destination(s). This page helps travellers make informed decisions and travel safely while outside of Canada.

The Government of Canada will continue to monitor public health risks and adjust measures, as needed, to keep Canadians safe.
