Petition to the House of Commons
- In November of 2021, off-leash rules in accordance with federal Migratory Bird Sanctuary Regulations were established at Cadboro-Gyro Park in Saanich, British Columbia;
- Dogs are no longer allowed to be off leash in the area due to their potential impact on the environment;
- Many residents disagree with this ruling, as this is a high-traffic area constantly busy with individuals, university students and families participating in activities like swimming, boating, beach games, etc. who also have an impact on the environment and wildlife;
- Many residents have been harassed by other members of the community attempting to self-enforce off-leash regulations (without a federal by-law officer present);
- Many residents believe Cadboro-Gyro Park is not an ideal area for a federal sanctuary and would like to see the park removed from the Victoria Harbour Migratory Bird Sanctuary zoning laws; and
- The community has been directly impacted and seen more negative outcomes due to the pressured enforcement.
