Petition to the Government of Canada
- Spain, Norway, and Ireland formally recognized the State of Palestine on Tuesday, May 28th, 2024, while Slovenia will formally recognize the State of Palestine in June 2024;
- The State of Palestine, governed by the Palestinian National Authority, currently does not have membership in the United Nations and is therefore recognized only as a non-member observer state;
- The State of Israel currently has illegal settlements in the West Bank, which violates international law. Additionally, there are concerns regarding potential illegal occupation of Gaza, as indicated by comments and actions from Netanyahu and other Israeli government officials; and
- 75% of the United Nations member states, which amounts to 145 out of the 193 member states, have formally recognized the State of Palestine. This recognition includes 9 countries within the G20.
