Petition to the Government of Canada
- The government through Veterans Affairs Canada has committed to support the care, treatment or re-establishment in civil life of Canadian veterans, including by covering the cost of certain medications and medical treatments for veterans;
- Veterans throughout Canada are legally accessing medical cannabis through the Marihuana for Medical Purposes Regulations for the treatment of PTSD, chronic pain and other health issues;
- Health Canada currently discourages smoking medical cannabis as a method of use;
- Oral ingestion of cannabis poses certain advantages over ingestion through the lungs, including ease of use and a reduction in bronchial irritation associated with smoking;
- Veterans Affairs Canada currently covers the cost of raw cannabis flower but not cannabis extracts for veterans, thereby precluding many veterans from accessing cannabis extracts for medical purposes.
