- Young people under 30 are one of the largest voting blocs in Canada, but vote less than previous generations when they were the same age;
- Many youth do not vote because of obligations related to everyday life, according to a 2021 Elections Canada survey;
- Weekend voting would enable youth to work and participate in the election;
- 58% of youth under 30 would be more likely to vote if election day was held over the weekend, according to recent polling;
- Most democracies hold elections on a weekend including: Australia, Austria, Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Columbia, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, New Zealand, Sweden, Switzerland, Greece, Italy, Mexico, Japan, Poland, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, Turkey, amongst others;
- Voting on both Saturday and Sunday would accommodate different religions and faiths.
