Petition to the Government of Canada
- Part of the Minister of Natural Resources’ mandate letter instructs him to move forward with “Just Transition” legislation, essentially a move to phase out energy sector jobs;
- The government has not been clear as to exactly how many jobs in the energy sector that they want to terminate and why;
- Reports indicate that approximately 600,000 Canadians are either directly or indirectly employed in the oil and gas industry. These workers live predominantly in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Newfoundland and Labrador;
- The Trudeau government has launched countless attacks on Alberta’s energy sector workers, evidenced by Bill C-69 (also known as their “No More Pipelines Bill”), their proposed cap on the energy sector, their so-called “Just Transition” and more;
- The Liberal government is only worsening western alienation by continuing their attacks on Alberta’s jobs; and
- The Liberal government should be focused on job growth in the midst of the economic downturn Canada is currently facing, not phasing jobs out.
