Petition to the Government of Canada
- Having access to water and food that is free of contaminants is a basic human right. To provide this, we need to take proactive measures to protect our soil, rivers, lakes and oceans;
- Canada’s economy is not solely dependent on the oil and gas industry. We are, however, solely responsible for cleaning up the oil spills on our land and in our water;
- The Government of Canada found approximately 26% of Canada's total greenhouse gas emissions, which are known to cause climate change, came from the oil and gas sector; and
- Climate change has a further detrimental impact on Canada’s food and water systems, as well as on the economy and human health.
