Petition to the Government of Canada
- Under the Safe Third Country Agreement, Canada must turn away refugee claimants seeking to enter Canada from the United States (US) at land border crossings;
- Due to the recent US Executive Orders, there is a high level of uncertainty for refugee claimants in the US; and
- Fearing that they will not be afforded protection in the US, an increasing number of these refugee claimants are making dangerous journeys to irregularly cross the US-Canada border in order to seek protection here.
