Petition to the Prime Minister
- The Family-Based Humanitarian Program for Colombians, Haitians and Venezuelans does not allow Canadian citizens or permanent residents living in the province of Quebec to sponsor their family;
- Over 90% of Canadian citizens of Haitian, Colombian and Venezuelan origin live in the province of Quebec;
- The Family-Based Humanitarian Program for Colombians, Haitians and Venezuelans is marked by systemic discrimination against their families, as compared with the programs available to Syrians, Afghans and Ukrainians, who are eligible in every province;
- The labour of Haitian, Colombian and Venezuelan immigrants contributes significantly to the health care system, education and other sectors;
- According to the UN, heavily armed gangs have taken control of Haiti, and cases of kidnapping, ransom and sexual violence have increased at least 105%, while homicides have increased by 35%;
- Canada is known for its compassion for all peoples who are victims of humanitarian crises; and
- The Family-Based Humanitarian Program for Colombians, Haitians and Venezuelans completely misses the mark by excluding Canadian citizens and permanent residents from the province of Quebec.
