Petition to the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship
- Issa Mafabi is a 63-year-old father to 11 children, born in Uganda;
- He migrated to Canada 5 years ago looking for safety and is currently facing deportation on September 12th;
- Newcomers coming to Canada are not aware of the constraints and the possibility of deportation they might face;
- RARICANOW is an organisation that centres the experiences of marginalized communities;
- It is a sad reality that many refugees such as Issa are not connected to adequate supports while they see Canada as a safe haven;
- Issa's life is in imminent danger if deported to Uganda;
- He has filed a refugee claim, however, it was denied and his two appeals were rejected;
- If Issa Mafabi is deported, he will likely be murdered for a crime that he did not commit;
- Uganda is not a safe place for people like lssa who are targeted for crimes others have committed;
- Issa is a valuable member of the community in Edmonton, Alberta, who has volunteered in the community such as the Africa Centre, his deportation would severely impact his community and family; and
- We at RARICANOW believe no one is free until everyone is free. This is why we are advocating to stop the deportation of Issa.
