PETITION TO THE GOVERNMENT OF CANADA

Whereas:

  • Russia has launched a full-scale genocidal war against Ukraine;
  • Thousands of civilians have been killed by the Russian military, which has deliberately targeted civilian infrastructure, hospitals, churches, and schools;
  • Under the purview of the War Crimes Program, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has launched a national investigation into allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in Ukraine;
  • The Wagner Group was recognized as a terrorist organization by the House of Commons, and now operates as part of the Russian Armed Forces;
  • The film "Russians at War" attempts to whitewash Russian war crimes and was funded by the Government of Canada through the Canada Media Fund and TVO;
  • A Russian-Canadian filmmaker Anastasia Trofimova spent seven months on Ukrainian territory illegally occupied by the Russian Federation while numerous Western journalists and content creators have been imprisoned and killed by the Russian army and Russian security agencies;
  • Ms. Trofimova was previously employed by Russia Today (RT) which is banned in Canada; and
  • RT is under investigation in the United States for being fully integrated into Russia's intelligence and influence operations worldwide.

We, the undersigned, citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to:

1. Recover all taxpayer funds spent on the production of "Russians at War";

2. Audit all government programs and funding to identify any projects that may directly or indirectly benefit Russia and its propaganda apparatus;

3. Request that Canadian law enforcement agencies, including the RCMP and CSIS, investigate any potential violations of Canadian, Ukrainian, or international law by Ms. Trofimova during her activities in Russian-occupied Ukrainian territories; and

4. Work with the RCMP to seize all materials collected and filmed as part of this production and examine them for potential evidence of Russian war crimes.
