The Honourable Lloyd Francis

Portrait of Speaker Lloyd Francis

Lloyd Francis was born in 1920 in Ottawa. He studied economics and joined the federal public service. He also became a property developer and was instrumental to the establishment of the Bells Corners neighbourhood of Ottawa. He was elected to Parliament in 1963, and for years served intermittently as he won or lost elections. In 1984 he served as Speaker for 10 months, until he lost his seat and the government was defeated in a November election. As Speaker he had continued the administrative reforms that Sauvé had begun. He died in 2007.

Anita Elizabeth Kertzer

Ottawa-born painter and sculptor Anita Elizabeth Kertzer studied at the Ottawa School of Art, the Banff School of Fine Arts and the Ramon Froman School of Art in Texas. She studied sculpture with the Ottawa artist and teacher Victor Tolgesy. Her art has been exhibited in Paris, London, and across North America. Her works include landscapes and still lifes in oil and in pastel, created in her studios in Ottawa and Long Key, Florida. She was president of the Pastel Society of Canada.
