The Future We Want: Recommendations for the 2014 Budget
Ottawa, December 10, 2013 -
Today, the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance tabled its report on pre-budget consultations for 2013. The report, entitled The Future We Want: Recommendations for the 2014 Budget, contains 48 recommendations related to 6 topics: fiscal sustainability and economic growth, vulnerable Canadians, research and innovation, rural and urban communities, government efficiency and employment opportunities.
“Once again, I am pleased to table the Committee’s pre-budget consultations report,” said Mr. James Rajotte, M.P. for Edmonton-Leduc and Chair of the House Finance Committee. “In preparing their recommendations, the Committee members were mindful of focusing on fiscal sustainability, economic growth, and improving government efficiency, since these topics can enable the federal government to attain its goals in other areas including helping residents who are vulnerable, supporting research and innovation that will lead to competitiveness and higher productivity, ensuring prosperous and secure rural and urban communities for the benefit of individuals and businesses, and establishing an environment in which employment opportunities can be maximized.”
The Committee launched the 2013 pre-budget consultations on June 7, 2013 when Canadians were invited to complete an on-line submission. As well, the Committee invited specific groups and individuals to share their views and proposals at pre-budget hearings held in Ottawa during November. Over the course of the pre-budget consultations, the Committee received 336 on-line submissions and met with 61 organizations and 3 individuals.
