Public Accounts of Canada: Another "clean" opinion from the Auditor General
Ottawa, March 05, 2008 -
The Auditor General of Canada has issued a “clean” opinion on the Public Accounts of Canada, the consolidated financial statements of the Government of Canada, for the ninth year in a row.
Despite the delay departments are facing in preparing for audited financial statements, and the out-dated methodology that the Canada Revenue Agency uses to estimate tax revenue, the Auditor General concluded that the financial statements fairly reflected the Government of Canada’s financial situation.
Canada is one of the few countries to produce consolidated financial statements, such as the Public Accounts. Canadians should be very proud to have these statements both audited and available, as they are a key tool for accountability.
