AMENDED

AIR LIBERALIZATION AND THE CANADIAN AIRPORTS SYSTEM

Ottawa, April 4, 2005 -

The House of Commons Standing Committee on Transport is undertaking a study on Air Liberalization, the Canadian airports system, and various other transport issues of regional importance. The study will focus on:

  • Air Liberalization including – the impact on Canadian carriers, new foreign ownership limits, cabotage, cargo services, air services with the United States, charter services and, international air services;
  • Airport governance, financial viability and rents; and
  • The viability of small and regional airports.

In undertaking this study the Committee will hold hearings in Ottawa, Halifax (March 10), Saint John (March 11), Montreal (March 21), Toronto (March 22), Niagara - Border crossing (March 23), Vancouver (April 14 and 15), Surrey - Border crossing (April 16), Calgary (April 18) and Winnipeg (April 19).

In anticipation of completing its study on Air Liberalization, the Committee hopes to conduct hearings in the United States, Europe and Asia.
