The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 362 East Block, the Chair, Pat O'Brien, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Murray Calder, Jay Hill, Pat O'Brien, John O'Reilly, Janko Peric, Hon. David Price and Bob Wood.

 

Acting Members present: Elsie Wayne for Rob Anders.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner, Analyst; Michel Rossignol, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Embassy of Switzerland in Ottawa: Ambassador Anton Thalmann. Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces: Ambassador Theodor Winkler, Director.

 

At 3:30 p.m., the Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the representatives of the Department of Veterans Affairs be invited to appear before the Committee to give a briefing on the preparation for the D-Day Celebrations, Tuesday, May 4, 2004.

 

It was agreed, — That representatives from the Canadian Council of Chief Executives be invited to appear before the Committee on Thursday, May 6, 2004.

 

At 3:51 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 3:52 p.m., the Committee resumed sitting in public.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a briefing session by the Director of the Geneva Centre for Democratic Control of Armed Forces.
 

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:15 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
