Meeting No. 5

Wednesday, February 26, 2003

The Subcommittee on International Trade, Trade Disputes and Investment of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Mac Harb, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Stéphane Bergeron, Rick Casson, Mac Harb.

Acting Members present: Murray Calder for Mark Eyking and Raymond Simard for Bob Speller.

Other Member present: John Duncan

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Peter Berg and Michael Holden, Analysts.

Witnesses: From the Export Development Canada: Stephen Poloz, Vice-President and Chief Economist; Henri Souquiéres, Vice-Président, International Markets. From the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association: Mitch Kowalski, Vice-President. From the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association: Peter Barnes, President and Chief Executive Officer; Charles Bergeron, Director of Government Affairs.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), Examination in view of strengthening economic relations between Canada and Asia.

Peter Barnes, Stephen Poloz, Henri Souquières and Mitch Kowalski made opening statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 5:05 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:07 p.m., the sitting was resumed in camera.

The Subcommittee proceeded to future business.

At 5:20 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
