MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 5

Thursday, June 12, 2003

The Subcommittee on Committee Budgets of the Liaison Committee met in camera at 1:07 p.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Chair, Walt Lastewka, presiding.

Members of the Subcommittee present: Walt Lastewka, Judi Longfield, Tom Wappel.

Acting Members present: Clifford Lincoln for Joe Fontana; Gurmant Grewal for John Williams.

Other Member present:  Bernard Patry.

In attendance: From the Committees Directorate:  Stephen Knowles, Clerk of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade.

The Subcommittee proceeded to the examination of the general budget envelope for committees.  The Clerk gave a presentation of the financial status for 2003-2004 fiscal year.

It was agreed, - That all travel budgets agreed to by the Liaison Committee (or by its Subcommittee on committee budgets) before today’s meeting be deemed to be returned to the general envelope if no motion authorizing the travel has been adopted by the House of Commons before the summer adjournment

It was agreed, - That the Subcommittee recommend to the Liaison Committee that it ensures that Chair’s signature appear as well at the bottom of each budget request.

It was agreed,- That the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade be granted a travel budget of $327,448 to travel in three (3) separate groups to Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur, New Delhi, Doubai, Islamabad, Ankara, Tehran, Riyadh, Cairo, Tel Aviv and Amman, from October 13 to 24, 2003, for its study on relations with Muslim countries.

At 1:35 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
