The Standing Committee on Public Accounts met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, John Williams, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Odina Desrochers, Paul Forseth, Roger Gaudet, Mac Harb, Steve Mahoney, Philip Mayfield, Shawn Murphy, Beth Phinney, Tony Tirabassi and John Williams.
Acting Members present: Monte Solberg for Val Meredith and Ivan Grose for Colleen Beaumier.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Jean Dupuis, Analyst.
Witnesses: From the Office of the Auditor General: Maria Barrados, Assistant Auditor General; Peter Simeoni, Principal; Suzanne Therrien, Director. From the Department of Human Resources Development: Maryantonett Flumian, Associate Deputy Minister; Charles Nixon, Acting Assistant Deputy Minister, Insurance; Lu Fernandez, A/Director, Investigation and Control Operations.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(e), the Committee commenced consideration of Chapter 1 (Human Resources Development Canada - The Integrity of the Social Insurance Number) of the September 2002 Report of the Auditor General of Canada.
Maria Barrados and Maryantonett Flumian made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.
At 5:19 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
