Meeting No. 2
Wednesday, November 21, 2001
The Sub-Committee on the Study of Sport in Canada of the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in a televised session at 12:30 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Dennis Mills, presiding.
Members of the Sub-Committee present: Robert Lanctôt, Serge Marcil, Dennis Mills, Hélène Scherrer.
Acting Member present: Inky Mark for Loyola Hearn.
Other Members present: Marlene Jennings, Pat O’Brien, Beth Phinney, Bob Wood and Jean Augustine.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Antony Jackson, Research Officer.
Witnesses: From the Olympic Aid: Johann Koss, President; Anne Peel, Executive Director.
Pursuant to S.O. 108(2), the Committee proceeded with a study on the role of Canadian sport in humanitarianism.
Johann Koss made an opening statement and, with the other witness, answered questions.
On motion of Serge Marcil, it was agreed by unanimous
consent,--That the Sub-committee on the Study of Sport in Canada of the
Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage support the organization Olympic Aid in its mission and in the
achievement of its objectives, and recommend to the Secretary of State for
Amateur Sport that the necessary approaches be made to such federal departments
as Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, Canadian Heritage and Indian and
Northern Affairs to obtain from them their share of concrete and positive
action in support of Olympic Aid, while
respecting provincial areas of jurisdiction.
At 2:02 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
