MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 1

Thursday, February 24, 2000

The Sub-Committee on the Televising of Committee Proceedings of the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs met at 3:50 p.m. this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Chair, Marlene Catterall, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Marlene Catterall, Grant McNally and Angela Vautour.

Acting Member present: David Pratt for Peter Adams.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: James Robertson, Research Officer.

Witness: From the House of Commons: Jean M. Leduc, Manager of Operations, IS-Broadcasting.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(3)(a)(v) and the recommendation contained in the 48th Report of the Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs (36th Parliament, 1st Session), the Sub-Committee proceeded to its consideration of the implementation of the recommendations concerning the pilot project of televising of committee proceedings.

The Chair introduced the Research Officer and invited him to make a general briefing on the background of the recommendations.

Jean Leduc answered technical questions related to House of Commons Broadcasting.

On motion of Grant McNally, it was agreed, - That the Sub-Committee retain the services of a Research Officer from the Parliamentary Research Branch, Library of Parliament, to assist the Sub-Committee in its work, at the discretion of the Chair.

On motion of David Pratt, it was agreed, - That the Sub-Committee meet at 3:30 p.m. on Thursdays, as required or determined by the Chair.

At 4:07 p.m., the Sub-Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
