MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS (Meeting No. 5) Monday, November 17, 1997
The Sub-Committee on International Trade, Trade Disputes and Investment met at 3:28 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 253-D, the Chair, Bob Speller, presiding. Members of the Committee present: William Blaikie, Robert Nault, Julian Reed, Benoît Sauvageau, Bob Speller. Acting Member present: Gary Lunn for Charlie Penson
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Daniel Shaw, Peter Berg, and Gerald Schmitz, Research Officers; Dr. Christopher Maule, Consultant. Witnesses: From the University of Toronto; Alan Rugman, Professor; From the Council of Canadians; Maude Barlow, National Volunteer Chairperson; From the Polaris Institute; Tony Clarke; From the Centre for Trade Policy and Law; Michael Hart, Professor, Carleton University.
Pursuant to its Order of Reference from the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade (See Minutes of October 23, 1997 – Meeting No. 4), the Sub-Committee resumed its study of the Multilateral Agreement on Investment. The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions. At 5:34 o’clock p.m., the sitting was suspended. At 5:41 o’clock p.m., the sitting resumed in camera. The Committee considered matters related to future meetings. At 5:52 o’clock p.m., the Sub-Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
