MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 7

Tuesday, May 4, 1999

The Sub-Committee on Children & Youth at Risk of the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:37 p.m. this day, in Room 705, La Promenade Building, the Chair, John Godfrey, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Christiane Gagnon, John Godfrey, Ovid Jackson, Karen Kraft Sloan, Eric Lowther, Maria Minna and Diane St-Jacques.

Acting Members present: Carolyn Bennett for Rey Pagtakhan.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Sandra Harder, Researcher.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research: Dr. Fraser Mustard, Founding President and Bell Canada Fellow. As Individuals: Daniel Tremblay, Professor, Université du Québec à Hull; Jocelyne Tougas, Consultant on Child Care.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2) the Sub-Committee resumed its study relating to issues regarding the future of children and youth in Canada.

The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.

By unanimous consent at 5:12 p.m. the Sub-Committee proceeded to sit in-camera.

The Sub-Committtee discussed its future business.

It was agreed, - That Minister responsible for family matters following a federal-provincial meeting in Saskatoon, be invited to appear on May 11, 1999 to inform the Sub-Committee of the results of the meeting and to discuss the federal-provincial consultation document on the national children's agenda.

At 5:53 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
