Meeting No. 2
Tuesday, March 16, 1999
The Sub-Committee on Children & Youth at Risk of the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 3:35 p.m. this day, in Room 705, La Promenade Building, the Chair, John Godfrey, presiding.
Members of the Sub-Committee present: Christiane Gagnon, John Godfrey, Ovid Jackson, Rey Pagtakhan.
Other Member present: Carolyn Bennett
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Sandra Harder, Researcher.
Witnesses: From the Statistics Canada: Wayne Smith, Director; Sylvie Michaud, Assistant Director/Manager; From the Canadian Council on Social Development: Katherine Scott, Senior Research and Policy Associate; From the Canadian Institute of Child Health: Sandra Schwartz, Director, Environmental Programs; Karen Kidder, Project and Research Coordinator.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2) study relating to issues regarding the future of children and youth in Canada
Wayne Smith, Sylvie Michaud, Katherine Scott, Karen Kidder and Sandra Schwartz made an opening statement and answered questions.
It was agreed, that the Sub-Committee on Children & Youth at Risk approve the proposed budget of $20,000 for the period April 1, 1999 to June 24, 19999 and that the Chair be authorized to present the said budget to the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities.
It was agreed, that the Sub-Committee on Children & Youth at Risk request from the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities an interim budget of $250.00 to reimburse the expenses of the out of town witnesses it propose to hear before the end of March 1999.
At 5:16 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
