TUESDAY, JUNE 9, 1998
The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 3:22 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 269 of the West Block, the Chair, Bill Graham, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Jean Augustine, André Bachand, Colleen Beaumier, Maud Debien, Raymonde Folco, Bill Graham, Ted McWhinney, Bob Mills, Charlie Penson, Julian Reed, Benoît Sauvageau, Bob Speller.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Gerald Schmitz and James Lee, Research Officers. From the Senate of Canada: Hon. Marcel Prud’homme.
Delegation: From Pakistan: Senator The Hon. Muhammad Akram Zaki, Chairman, Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Kashmir Affairs and Nothern Affairs and Former Secretary-General, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Col Ghulam Sarwar Cheema, Member of the National Assembly and Former Minister of Defence; H.E. Rafat Mahdi, High Commissioner of Pakistan to Canada.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to meet with Members of a parliamentary delegation from Pakistan.
Senator Muhammad Akram Zaki made an opening statement and, with Col. Ghulam Sarwar Cheema, answered questions.
At 4:28 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
