TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 1998
The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met in camera at 3:30 o’clock p.m., this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Bill Graham, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Jean Augustine, André Bachand, Colleen Beaumier, John Cannis, Bill Graham, Raymonde Folco, Ted McWhinney, Bob Mills, Julian Reed, Benoît Sauvageau, Bob Speller, Daniel Turp.
Acting Members present: Keith Martin for Gurmant Grewal; Art Hanger for Charlie Penson; Louise Hardy for Svend Robinson.
Other Members present: Dick Proctor and David Price.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: James Lee and Gerald Schmitz, Research Officers.
Witnesses: From the Department of National Defence and Veterans Affairs: Admiral Jim A. King, Director General, International Secutirty Policy. From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Paul Heinbecker, Assistant Deputy Minister, Global Security Policy, Paul Dingledine, Director General, Middle East and North Africa Bureau.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee held a briefing session on the situation in Iraq.
Admiral King and Paul Heinbecker each made statements and, with Paul Dingledine, answered questions.
At 5:03 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
