M-88 Federal framework for addiction recovery

43rd Parliament, 2nd Session

Motion Text

That, in the opinion of the House, the lack of access to effective addiction recovery treatment has reached a crisis point in Canada, and accordingly, the government should develop and implement a federal framework for addiction recovery to ensure that Canadians suffering from addictions to harmful substances receive timely access to appropriate care and treatment, including, but not limited to (i) consulting with provinces, municipalities, and recovery providers to develop best practices, guidelines and long-term plans for addiction treatment and recovery, (ii) developing targeted strategies for specific populations, Indigenous peoples and at-risk youth, (iii) developing awareness programs for employers to recognize addiction and provide support for their employees, (iv) providing increased temporary financial supports to individuals undergoing recovery treatment and their families.
