Introduction of Private Members' Bills

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. Tonks (York South—Weston), seconded by Mr. Kania (Brampton West), Bill C-614, An Act respecting a national transportation strategy for the electrification of commuter rail systems, was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.


Motions

Applications for Emergency Debates

Pursuant to Standing Order 52, Mr. Rae (Toronto Centre) asked leave to move the adjournment of the House for the purpose of discussing a specific and important matter requiring urgent consideration, namely, the situation in Egypt.

The Speaker decided that the matter was proper to be discussed and, pursuant to Standing Order 52(9), directed that it be considered later today, at the ordinary hour of daily adjournment.

Government Orders

The House resumed consideration at report stage of Bill C-42, An Act to amend the Aeronautics Act, as reported by the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities with amendments;

And of the motions in Group No. 1 (Motions Nos. 1 and 3).

Group No. 1

Motion No. 1 of Mr. Jean (Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities), seconded by Mr. Watson (Essex), — That Bill C-42, in Clause 2, be amended by replacing lines 7 to 15 on page 2 with the following:

“(4) The Committee of the House of Commons responsible for transport matters must,

(a) within three years after the day on which this subsection comes into force and every five years thereafter, commence a comprehensive review of the provisions and operation of this section, and complete the review within two years; and

(b) within three months after the day on which the review is completed, submit a report to the House of Commons setting out its findings.”

Amendment to Motion No. 1 of Mr. McCallum (Markham—Unionville), seconded by Mr. Dhaliwal (Newton—North Delta), — That Motion No. 1 be amended by substituting paragraph (a) with the following:

“(a) within two years after the day on which this subsection comes into force and every five years thereafter, commence a comprehensive review of the provisions and operation of this section, and complete the review within one year; and”.

Motion No. 3 of Mr. Jean (Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities), seconded by Mr. Watson (Essex), — That Bill C-42, in Clause 2, be amended by replacing line 12 on page 2 with the following:

“the provisions and operation of this section; and”
