The House of Commons Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities is undertaking a study regarding options for the design and rollout of the Government of Canada’s proposed housing accelerator fund. These options include, but are not limited to, investments in staffing and technological support for municipal planning departments, property purchases, infrastructure upgrades, and policy development (i.e. inclusionary zoning and transit-oriented development bylaws) for the purpose of reaching a goal of 100,000 new homes by 2024-25. The study will also investigate how the government can build on the Federal Lands Initiative to identify federally owned properties that might be made available to municipalities and/or other stakeholders for the purpose of increasing housing supply. The study follows a motion sponsored by Chad Collins (Member of Parliament for Hamilton East—Stoney Creek) and adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 3, 2022.

The Committee invites members of the public to submit written briefs no longer than 10 pages (approximately 4,000 words) for consideration in the study. For more information on how to prepare a submission, please consult the Guide for Submitting Briefs to House of Commons Committees.

The deadline for the Committee to receive written briefs from the public is Thursday, June 30, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. (EDT). Witnesses submitting briefs in only one official language should do so at least five working days before the deadline in order to allow time for translation. Briefs may be submitted electronically to the Committee Clerk at HUMA@parl.gc.ca or submitted online through the Committee's study page of its website.
