House of Commons Standing Committee on Official Languages Travels to Western Canada to Study the Action Plan for Official Languages 2018-2023: Investing in Our Future
Ottawa, September 20, 2018 -
From 25 to 27 September 2018, seven members of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Official Languages will travel to two provinces in Western Canada and a territory to conduct a study on the Action Plan for Official Languages 2018–2023: Investing in Our Future, the Government of Canada’s latest official languages strategy.
The members will be in Whitehorse, Yukon, on 25 September, in Vancouver, British Columbia, on 26 September, and in Regina, Saskatchewan, on 27 September.
The Action Plan sets out the Government of Canada’s official languages priorities for the next five years and is critical to the development and vitality of official language minority communities and the promotion of Canada’s linguistic duality.
By meeting with community stakeholders from various fields and with representatives of the provincial and territorial governments, the Committee will be able to analyze the issues related to the Action Plan’s governance and various strategies in greater detail and report on the issues to the House of Commons.
The Committee Chair, the Honourable Denis Paradis (Brome – Missisquoi), will be accompanied by Vice-Chairs Alupa Clarke (Beauport – Limoilou) and François Choquette (Drummond), as well as the following members: René Arseneault (Madawaska – Restigouche), Sylvie Boucher (Beauport – Côte-de-Beaupré – Île d’Orléans – Charlevoix), Jean Rioux (Saint-Jean) and Darrell Samson (Sackville – Preston – Chezzetcook).
