NEWS RELEASE
2016 CENTENNIAL FLAME RESEARCH AWARD
BRIAN HILL - RECIPIENT
Ottawa, October 17, 2016 -
On Tuesday, September 27, 2016, the Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities chose Brian Hill as the recipient of the 2016 Centennial Flame Research Award.
Mr. Hill’s research will focus on the impact of sport upon the lives of persons with a disability and how access to sport at different stages of life empowers persons with a disability. In addition, Mr. Hill will consider what obstacles exist that prevent disabled Canadians from accessing sport.
In accordance with the Centennial Flame Research Award Act, this annual monetary award is given each year to a person with a disability to enable him or her to conduct research and prepare a report on the contributions of one or more Canadians with disabilities to the public life of Canada or the activities of Parliament.
The award, which amounts to $5,500 for this year, comes from the money collected from the Centennial Flame monument on Parliament Hill in Ottawa and any money otherwise received as a donation to the Centennial Flame Research Award Fund.
