The Standing Committee on Human Resources, Skills and Social Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities met at 8:45 a.m. this day, in Room 228, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Phil McColeman, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Scott Armstrong, Tarik Brahmi, Brad Butt, Rodger Cuzner, Sadia Groguhé, Larry Maguire, Colin Mayes, Phil McColeman, Cathy McLeod and Jinny Jogindera Sims.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Havi Echenberg, Analyst; Isabelle Lafontaine-Émond, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Acosys Consulting Services Inc.: David Acco, President; Jerry Peltier, Vice-President, Government and Indigenous Relations. Wikwemikong Unceded Indian Reserve: Colleen Wassegijig-Migwans, Coordinator, Aboriginal Skills Employment and Training Agreement (ASETA), Enaadmaagehjik Development Commission. Ignite Adult Learning Corporation: Carlo Bizzarri, Program Manager; Mona Hill, Facilitator, Apprentice Support Services. Six Independent Alberta First Nations Society: Charlene Bruno, Executive Director. Aboriginal Mentoring and Training Association : Jeanette Jules, Councillor, Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc; Laurie Sterritt, Chief Executive Officer.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, November 7, 2013, the Committee resumed its study of opportunities for aboriginal persons in the workforce.
 

Colleen Wassegijig-Migwans and David Acco made statements and, with Jerry Peltier, answered questions.

 

At 9:46 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 9:52 a.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Laurie Sterrit and Jeanette Jules, Charlene Bruno, by videoconference from Edmonton, Alberta, and Carlo Bizzari and Mona Hill, by videoconference from Regina, Saskatchewan, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 10:47 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
