The Standing Committee on the Status of Women met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 228, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Hélène LeBlanc, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Stella Ambler, Niki Ashton, Joan Crockatt, Kirsty Duncan, Hélène LeBlanc, Tilly O'Neill Gordon, Djaouida Sellah, Susan Truppe and Terence Young.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Martha Butler, Analyst; Laura Munn-Rivard, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As an Individual: Arthur Boese. Anorexia and Bulimia Quebec : Josée Champagne, Executive Director. Eating Disorders Association of Canada: Jadine Cairns, President. DisAbled Women's Network of Canada: Bonnie L. Brayton, National Executive Director.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, November 19, 2013, the Committee resumed its study of eating disorders amongst girls and women.
 

Josée Champagne, by videoconference from Montreal, Quebec; Jadine Cairns, by videoconference from Vancouver, British Columbia, Arthur Boese and Bonnie L. Brayton, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:01 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:06 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

The Chair presented the Second Report from the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure. The Report was concurred in and read as follows:

Your Subcommittee met on Monday, February 24, 2014, to consider the business of the Committee and agreed to make the following recommendations:

1. That, concerning the study on eating disorders amongst girls and women, the Committee invite witnesses to appear on Monday, March 3, 2014.

2. That the Committee invite the Minister of Status of Women to appear concerning the Supplementary Estimates (C), 2013-14 on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, for up to one hour.

3. That, if the Minister of Status of Women is unavailable, the Clerk be authorized to invite witnesses, for up to one hour, concerning the study on eating disorders amongst girls and women.

4. That, concerning the study on eating disorders amongst girls and women, the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure meet on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, for up to one hour, to provide instructions for drafting the report.

 

At 5:09 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
