The Standing Committee on International Trade met at 4:30 p.m. this day, in Room 306, The Valour Building, the Chair, Randy Hoback, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Ron Cannan, Don Davies, Randy Hoback, Laurin Liu, Marc-André Morin, Erin O'Toole, Massimo Pacetti and Devinder Shory.

 

Acting Members present: Nina Grewal for Russ Hiebert and Blake Richards for Hon. Rob Merrifield.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Alexandre Gauthier, Analyst; Pascal Tremblay, Analyst. House of Commons: Caroline Bosc, Procedural Clerk.

 

Witnesses: Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development: Ian Burney, Assistant Deputy Minister, Trade Policy and Negotiations Branch; Nadia Bourély, Director, Trade Policy and Negotiations, Asia Division, Trade Negotiations Bureau; Marvin Hildebrand, Director General, Market Access; Vernon MacKay, Director, Investment Trade Policy Division. Department of Agriculture and Agri-Food: Denis Landreville, Director and Lead Negotiator, Regional and Bilateral Agreements, Trade Negotiations Division, Market and Industry Services Branch. Department of Employment and Social Development: Pierre Bouchard, Director, Bilateral and Regional Labour Affairs.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, June 3, 2014, the Committee commenced its study of the positive effects for Canada of the Canada-Korea Free Trade Agreement.
 

Ian Burney made a statement and, with Marvin Hildebrand, Nadia Bourély, Vernon MacKay, Denis Landreville and Pierre Bouchard, answered questions.

 

At 5:27 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:29 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 5:30 p.m., by unanimous consent and pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the Committee continue to sit.

 

It was agreed, — That on Thursday, October 2, 2014, the Committee hear from four (4) witnesses, with two (2) witnesses during the first hour and two (2) witnesses during the second hour, should Bill C-41, An Act to implement the Free Trade Agreement between Canada and the Republic of Korea be referred to the Committee.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee hold two (2) meetings on Tuesday, October 7, 2014, one in the morning and another one from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., should Bill C-41, An Act to implement the Free Trade Agreement between Canada and the Republic of Korea, be referred to the Committee and, that the Committee hear four (4) witnesses during each of these meetings.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee devote its meeting on Thursday, October 9, 2014, to the clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-41, An Act to implement the Free Trade Agreement between Canada and the Republic of Korea.

 

At 5:37 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
