The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 7-52, 131 Queen Street, the Chair, Gordon Brown, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Gordon Brown, Hon. Stéphane Dion, Rick Dykstra, Jim Hillyer, Pierre Nantel, Rathika Sitsabaiesan, Kennedy Stewart, Terence Young and David Yurdiga.

 

Acting Members present: Jim Eglinski for David Yurdiga, Ryan Leef for John Weston and Frank Valeriote for Hon. Stéphane Dion.

 

Other Members present: Dan Harris.

 

In attendance: House of Commons: Philippe Méla, Legislative Clerk; Michelle Legault, Procedural Clerk. Library of Parliament: Marion Ménard, Analyst; Chloé Forget, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: École supérieure de ballet du Québec: Anik Bissonnette, Artistic Director; Alix Laurent, Executive Director. Dancers of Damelahamid: Margaret Grenier, Executive and Artistic Director. Zab Maboungou/Compagnie Danse Nyata Nyata: Zab Maboungou, Artistic Director. Ballet BC: Emily Molnar, Artistic Director. SAMPRADAYA Dance Creations: Lata Pada, Founder and Artistic Director. Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, February 18, 2015, the Committee resumed its study of dance in Canada.
 

Zab Maboungou, Anik Bissonnette and Emily Molnar, by videoconference from Vancouver, British Columbia, made statements and, with Alix Laurent, answered questions.

 

At 4:29 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:33 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Margaret Grenier, by videoconference from West Vancouver, British Columbia, Lata Pada, by videoconference from Toronto, Ontario and Kathi Sundstrom by videoconference from Calgary, Alberta, made statements and answered questions.

 

At 5:28 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:31 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Wednesday, November 5, 2014, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-597, An Act to amend the Holidays Act (Remembrance Day).
 

The Committee commenced its clause-by-clause study of the Bill.

 

On Clause 1,

Rick Dykstra moved, — That Bill C-597, in Clause 1, be amended by deleting lines 12 to 14 on page 1.

 

After debate, the question was put on the amendment of Rick Dykstra and it was agreed to.

 

Clause 1, as amended, carried on division.

 

Clause 2 carried on division.

 

The Title carried on division.

 

The Bill, as amended, carried on division.

 

ORDERED, — That the Chair report the Bill, as amended, to the House.

 

ORDERED, — That Bill C-597, as amended, be reprinted for the use of the House at report stage.

 

At 5:35 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
