The Special Committee on Violence Against Indigenous Women met at 6:00 p.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Stella Ambler, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Stella Ambler, Niki Ashton, Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Jean Crowder, Libby Davies, Robert Goguen, Cathy McLeod, Greg Rickford and Susan Truppe.

 

Acting Members present: Candice Bergen for Michelle Rempel, Mylène Freeman for Romeo Saganash, Shelly Glover for Kelly Block and Blake Richards for Michelle Rempel.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Lyne Casavant, Analyst; Julie Cool, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development: Françoise Ducros, Assistant Deputy Minister, Education and Social Development Programs and Partnerships; Sheilagh Murphy, Director General, Social Policy and Programs; Jo-Ann Greene, Senior Policy Advisor, Lands Modernization Directorate. Department of Public Safety: Shawn Tupper, Assistant Deputy Minister, Community Safety and Partnerships Branch; Kimberly Lavoie, Director, Aboriginal Corrections Policy Division. Statistics Canada: Lynn Barr-Telford, Director General, Health, Justice and Special Surveys Branch; Cathy Connors, Assistant Director, Canadian Centre for Justice Statistics; Rebecca Kong, Chief, Correctional Services Program, Canadian Centre for Justice Statistics.

 
Pursuant to the Order of Reference of Tuesday, February 26, 2013, the Committee resumed its study of violence against indigenous women.
 

Françoise Ducros, Shawn Tupper and Lynn Barr-Telford made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 7:58 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
