The Standing Committee on Health met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Joy Smith, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Kelly Block, Patrick Brown, Colin Carrie, Hon. Hedy Fry, Matthew Kellway, Wladyslaw Lizon, Ben Lobb, Dany Morin, Djaouida Sellah, Joy Smith and David Wilks.

 

Acting Members present: Carol Hughes for Libby Davies.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Karin Phillips, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: As individuals: Alireza Jalali, Medical Doctor; Steven Denniss. Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada: Irving Gold, Vice President, Government Relations and External Affairs; Steve Slade, Vice-President, Data and Analysis.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 9, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of technological innovation.
 

Alireza Jalali, Irving Gold and Steven Denniss made statements and, with Steve Slade, answered questions.

 

Djaouida Sellah gave notice of the following motion:

That the Committee undertake, following its study on technological innovation in health care, a study of at least five meetings on the progress of the implementation of the motion adopted on March 14, 2012, by the House of Commons aiming to establish a nationwide strategy to anticipate, identify, and manage shortages of essential medications, and that the Chair report the Committee’s findings to the House.

 

At 5:13 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
