The Standing Committee on Health met at 11:02 a.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Vice-Chair, Libby Davies, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Kelly Block, Patrick Brown, Colin Carrie, Libby Davies, Hon. Hedy Fry, Matthew Kellway, Wladyslaw Lizon, Ben Lobb, Djaouida Sellah and Mark Strahl.

 

Acting Members present: Philip Toone for Dany Morin.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Raphaelle Deraspe, Analyst; Karin Phillips, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Université de Montréal: José Côté, Holder of the Research Chair and Professor, Research Chair in Innovative Nursing Practices; Diane Saulnier, Chair Coordinator, Research Chair in Innovative Nursing Practices. Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières: Lyne Thomassin, Coordinator, Clinique multidisciplinaire en santé; Carole Lemire, Director, Nursing department. Manitoba Chambers of Commerce: Dale Lacombe, Chair, Health Committee. Canadian Health Coalition: Michael McBane, National Coordinator. Ottawa Integrative Cancer Centre: Dugald Seely, Executive Director.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 9, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of technological innovation.
 

Lyne Thomassin, Carole Lemire, José Côté, Michael McBane, Dugald Seely and Dale Lacombe, by videoconference from Winnipeg, Manitoba, made statements and, with Diane Saulnier, answered questions.

 

At 12:30 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:32 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 12:49 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:52 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

At 12:59 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 1:00 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee cancel the site visit planned for Tuesday, November 6, 2012, and instead on this date undertake a one-day study on the subject-matter of clauses 269 to 298 of Bill C-45, A second Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 29, 2012 and other measures; and that the first hour of this meeting be allocated to the hearing of witnesses and the second hour to Committee business, at which time it will be decided whether the Committee requires a second meeting on this study.

 

At 1:02 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
