The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development met at 11:04 a.m. this day, in Room 306, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Dean Allison, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Dean Allison, Lois Brown, Bob Dechert, Paul Dewar, Nina Grewal, Hélène Laverdière, Ève Péclet, Romeo Saganash and Gary Ralph Schellenberger.

 

Acting Members present: Earl Dreeshen for John Williamson, Hon. Mark Eyking for Hon. Bob Rae and Richard M. Harris for Dave Van Kesteren.

 

Other Members present: Elizabeth May.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Allison Goody, Analyst; James Lee, Analyst. House of Commons: Philippe Méla, Legislative Clerk; David-Andrés Novoa, Legislative Clerk.

 

Witnesses: Canadian Council on Africa: Lucien Bradet, President and Chief Executive Officer. Canadian Defence and Foreign Affairs Institute: Colin Robertson, Vice-President and Senior Fellow. As an individual: Paul Chapin.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, May 9, 2013, the Committee resumed its study of the subject matter of clauses 174 to 199 (Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Act) of Bill C-60, An Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 21, 2013 and other measures.
 

Paul Chapin, Colin Robertson and Lucien Bradet each made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 12:33 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:38 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

At 12:57 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
