The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 8:48 a.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Harold Albrecht, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Harold Albrecht, François Choquette, Kirsty Duncan, James Lunney, François Pilon, Anne Minh-Thu Quach, Michelle Rempel, Robert Sopuck, Brian Storseth, Lawrence Toet and Stephen Woodworth.

 

Acting Members present: Linda Duncan for Megan Anissa Leslie.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Penny Becklumb, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: David Suzuki Foundation: Bill Wareham, Science Project Manager. Nature Canada: Ian Davidson, Executive Director; Stephen Hazell, Senior Conservation Advisor. Wildlife Habitat Canada: Len Ugarenko, President.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 14, 2013, the Committee resumed its study on habitat conservation in Canada.
 

Len Ugarenko, Bill Wareham by videoconference from Vancouver, British Columbia, and Ian Davidson made statements and, with Stephen Hazell, answered questions.

 

At 10:32 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 10:34 a.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the proposed budget in the amount of $27,800, for the study on habitat conservation in Canada, be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That, for the study on habitat conservation in Canada, arrangements be made for witnesses based outside the National Capital region to appear by videoconference whenever possible and cost effective.

 

At 10:36 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
