The Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Mark Warawa, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Stella Ambler, François Choquette, Kirsty Duncan, Megan Anissa Leslie, James Lunney, François Pilon, Anne Minh-Thu Quach, Michelle Rempel, Robert Sopuck, Lawrence Toet, Mark Warawa and Stephen Woodworth.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Penny Becklumb, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Department of the Environment: Karen Dodds, Assistant Deputy Minister, Science and Technology Branch; Charles A. Lin, Director General, Atmospheric Science and Technology.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, December 1, 2011, the Committee resumed its study of the plans for ozone monitoring initiatives.
 

Karen Dodds made a statement and, with Charles A. Lin, answered questions.

 

At 4:29 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:33 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, as requested by the Standing Committee on Finance in their motion adopted on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 and the letter received from its Chair, the Committee undertake a study of the subject matter of clauses 425 to 432 (Canadian Environmental Assessment Act) of Bill C-45, A second Act to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 29, 2012 and other measures; that a meeting be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, in order to hear from witnesses on this study, including officials from the Department of the Environment, one witness proposed by the opposition parties and one witness proposed by the Conservative Party; that the witnesses appear from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and that the Committee meet in camera from 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. to discuss a response, including potential recommendations and/or amendments, to the Chair of the Standing Committee on Finance; and that the said response be delivered, in both official languages, by Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at 5:00 p.m.

 

It was agreed, — That, in relation to the study of the subject matter of clauses 425 to 432 (Canadian Environmental Assessment Act) of Bill C-45, the Committee meet on Monday, November 19, 2012, if needed, to resume its consideration of a draft response to the Chair of the Standing Committee on Finance.

 

At 4:56 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
