The Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration met in a televised session at 8:52 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, David Tilson, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Rick Dykstra, Mylène Freeman, Sadia Groguhé, Roxanne James, Kevin Lamoureux, Chungsen Leung, Costas Menegakis, Ted Opitz, Jinny Jogindera Sims, Rathika Sitsabaiesan, David Tilson and John Weston.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Julie Béchard, Analyst; Melissa Pang, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Jason Kenney, P.C., M.P., Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism.

 

Witnesses: Department of Citizenship and Immigration: Neil Yeates, Deputy Minister; Amipal Manchanda, Assistant Deputy Minister, Chief Financial Officer; Les Linklater, Assistant Deputy Minister, Strategic and Program Policy; Robert Orr, Assistant Deputy Minister, Operations.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2013-14: Votes 1, 5 and 10 under CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION referred to the Committee on Monday, February 25, 2013.
 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Thursday, February 28, 2013, the Committee commenced its study of expenditure plans for Citizenship and Immigration in 2012-13.
 

The Chair called Vote 1 under CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION.

 

The Minister made a statement and, with Neil Yeates and Robert Orr, answered questions.

 

Vote 1 under CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION carried by a show of hands: YEAS: 6; NAYS: 3.

 

The Chair called Vote 5 under CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION.

 

Vote 5 under CITIZENSHIP AND IMMIGRATION carried and was agreed to on the following recorded division: YEAS: Rick Dykstra, Mylène Freeman, Sadia Groguhé, Roxanne James, Chungsen Leung, Costas Menegakis, Ted Opitz, Jinny Jogindera Sims, Rathika Sitsabaiesan, John Weston — 10; NAYS: Kevin Lamoureux — 1.
