The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 268, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Larry Miller, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Malcolm Allen, Alex Atamanenko, Ruth Ellen Brosseau, Pierre Lemieux, Ben Lobb, Larry Miller, LaVar Payne, Francine Raynault, Brian Storseth, Frank Valeriote and Bob Zimmer.

 

Acting Members present: Parm Gill for Brian Storseth and Joe Preston for Randy Hoback.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge, Analyst; Khamla Heminthavong, Analyst.

 

Witnesses: Beretta Organic Farms: Mike Beretta, Chief Executive Officer. Canadian Renderers Association: Graham Clarke, Government Affairs. BC Food Systems Network: Kathleen Gibson, Policy Analyst.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Wednesday, March 28, 2012, the Committee resumed its study of the animal products supply chain (red meat).
 

Kathleen Gibson by videoconference from Victoria, British Columbia, Mike Beretta and Graham Clarke made statements and answered questions.

 

At 4:32 p.m., Malcolm Allen took the Chair.

 

At 4:43 p.m., Larry Miller took the Chair.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That, in the context of the study of the animal products supply chain, the Committee commence hearing witnesses on the component of poultry products on Wednesday, June 6, 2012.

 

At 5:18 p.m., by unanimous consent and pursuant to Standing Order 115(5), it was agreed that the Committee continue to sit.

 

Alex Atamanenko moved, — That, in the opinion of the Committee, the government should recognize May 29 as the National Day of the Honey Bee; and that this be reported to the House.

Debate arose thereon.

 

The question was put on the motion and it was negatived, by a show of hands: YEAS: 5; NAYS: 6.

 

At 5:20 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
