The Standing Committee on Veterans Affairs met in a televised session at 3:32 p.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Greg Kerr, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Eve Adams, Sean Casey, Sylvain Chicoine, Richard M. Harris, Bryan Hayes, Greg Kerr, Wladyslaw Lizon, Ben Lobb, Irene Mathyssen, Peter Stoffer and Bob Zimmer.

 

Acting Members present: Anne-Marie Day for Manon Perreault and Yvon Godin for Manon Perreault.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Martin Auger, Analyst; Katherine Simonds, Analyst.

 

Appearing: Hon. Steven Blaney, P.C., M.P., Minister of Veterans Affairs.

 

Witnesses: Department of Veterans Affairs: Mary Chaput, Deputy Minister; Charlotte Stewart, Acting Assistant Deputy Minister, Human Resources and Corporate Services.

 
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee commenced consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (B) 2012-2013: Votes 1b and 5b under VETERANS AFFAIRS referred to the Committee on Thursday, November 8, 2012.
 

The Chair called Vote 1b under VETERANS AFFAIRS.

 

The Minister made a statement and, with Mary Chaput, answered questions.

 

At 4:22 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:25 p.m., the sitting resumed.

 

Mary Chaput and Charlotte Stewart answered questions.

 

Peter Stoffer moved, — That Vote 1b under VETERANS AFFAIRS in the amount of $ 2,890,963, be reduced by $ 2,219,000.

 

After debate, the question was put on the motion and it was negatived, by a show of hands: YEAS: 4; NAYS: 7.

 

Vote 1b under VETERANS AFFAIRS carried.

 

The Chair called Vote 5b under VETERANS AFFAIRS.

 

Vote 5b under VETERANS AFFAIRS carried.

 

ORDERED, — That the Chair report Votes 1b and 5b under VETERANS AFFAIRS to the House.

 

At 5:20 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
