The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met in a televised session at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Chris Warkentin, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Hon. Carolyn Bennett, Dennis Bevington, Ray Boughen, Rob Clarke, Linda Duncan, Jonathan Genest-Jourdain, LaVar Payne, Greg Rickford, Kyle Seeback, Chris Warkentin and David Wilks.

Acting Members present: Kennedy Stewart for Carol Hughes.

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Tonina Simeone, Analyst ; Norah Kielland, Research Assistant.

Appearing: Hon. John Duncan, P.C., M.P., Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development.

Witnesses: Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development: Michael Wernick, Deputy Minister; Colleen Swords, Associate Deputy Minister.

Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee commenced consideration of the Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), Supplementary Estimates (C) 2011-2012: Votes 1c, 5c and 10c under INDIAN AFFAIRS AND NORTHERN DEVELOPMENT, votes 27c and 29c under HEALTH referred to the Committee on Tuesday, February 28, 2012; and

Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), the Committee commenced consideration of the Main Estimates 2012-2013: Votes 1, 5, 10, L15, L20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 under INDIAN AFFAIRS AND NORTHERN DEVELOPMENT, votes 30 and 35 under HEALTH referred to the Committee on Tuesday, February 28, 2012.

The Chair called Votes 1c and 1 under INDIAN AFFAIRS AND NORTHERN DEVELOPMENT.

The Minister made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 4:33 p.m., the sitting was suspended.
