Introduction of Private Members' Bills

Pursuant to Standing Orders 68(2) and 69(1), on motion of Mr. Marston (Hamilton East—Stoney Creek), seconded by Ms. Davies (Vancouver East), Bill C-564, An Act respecting a Senior Consumer Price Index, was introduced, read the first time, ordered to be printed and ordered for a second reading at the next sitting of the House.

Business of Supply

The Order was read for the consideration of the Business of Supply.

Mr. Garneau (Westmount—Ville-Marie), seconded by Mr. Murphy (Charlottetown), moved, — That the House calls on the Government of Canada to reinstate immediately the long-form census; and given that no person has ever been imprisoned for not completing the census, the House further calls on the government to introduce legislative amendments to the Statistics Act to remove completely the provision of imprisonment from Section 31 of the Act in relation to the Long-form Census, the Census of Population and the Census of Agriculture.

Debate arose thereon.

Ways and Means

Mr. Flaherty (Minister of Finance) laid upon the Table, — Notice of a Ways and Means motion to implement certain provisions of the budget tabled in Parliament on March 4, 2010 and other measures. (Ways and Means No. 9) — Sessional Paper No. 8570-403-11.

Pursuant to Standing Order 83(2), at the request of Mr. Flaherty (Minister of Finance), an Order of the Day was designated for the consideration of this Ways and Means motion.

Business of Supply

The House resumed consideration of the motion of Mr. Garneau (Westmount—Ville-Marie), seconded by Mr. Murphy (Charlottetown), in relation to the Business of Supply.

The debate continued.

At 5:15 p.m., pursuant to Standing Order 81(16), the Speaker interrupted the proceedings.

The question was put on the motion and, pursuant to Standing Order 45, the recorded division was deferred until Wednesday, September 29, 2010, at the expiry of the time provided for Government Orders.

The House resumed consideration of the motion of Mr. Dosanjh (Vancouver South), seconded by Mr. Bélanger (Ottawa—Vanier), — That Bill C-467, An Act to amend the Citizenship Act (children born abroad), be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration.

The debate continued.

The question was put on the motion and it was agreed to on division.
