The Standing Committee on Health met at 3:33 p.m. this day, in Room 7-52, 131 Queen Street, the Acting Chair, Tim Uppal, presiding.

 

Members of the Committee present: Josée Beaudin, Patrick Brown, Colin Carrie, Ruby Dhalla, Kirsty Duncan, Megan Anissa Leslie, Luc Malo, Tilly O'Neill-Gordon and Tim Uppal.

 

Acting Members present: Randy Hoback for Patricia Davidson, Kevin Lamoureux for Hon. Ujjal Dosanjh and Bruce Stanton for Joy Smith.

 

In attendance: Library of Parliament: Sonya Norris, Analyst; Karin Phillips, Analyst. House of Commons: Travis Ladouceur, Committee Clerk.

 

Witnesses: Department of Health: Glenda Yeates, Deputy Minister; Germain Tremblay, Acting Chief Financial Officer; Daniel Chaput, Director General, Veterinary Drugs Directorate; Paul Glover, Assistant Deputy Minister, Health Products and Food Branch. Public Health Agency of Canada: David Butler-Jones, Chief Public Health Officer; James Libbey, Chief Financial Officer; Rainer Engelhardt, Assistant Deputy Minister, Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Branch. Pursuant to Standing Order 81(5), the Committee commenced consideration of the Supplementary Estimates (C) 2010-11: Votes 1c, 5c, 10c and 25c under HEALTH referred to the Committee on Tuesday, February 8, 2011.
 
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) and the motion adopted by the Committee on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, the Committee resumed its study of antibiotics and livestock.
 

The Chair called Vote 1c under HEALTH.

 

Glenda Yeates, David Butler-Jones and Alain Beaudet made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 4:49 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 4:52 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

 

Vote 1c under HEALTH carried.

 

The Chair called Vote 5c under HEALTH.

 

Vote 5c under HEALTH carried.

 

The Chair called Vote 10c under HEALTH.

 

Vote 10c under HEALTH carried.

 

The Chair called Vote 25c under HEALTH.

 

Vote 25c under HEALTH carried.

 

ORDERED, — That the Chair report Votes 1c, 5c, 10c and 25c, under HEALTH of the Supplementary Estimates (C) 2010-11 to the House.

 
The Committee proceeded to the consideration of matters related to Committee business.
 

It was agreed, — That the operational budget for the amount of $13,100 for the Committee's study of antibiotics and livestock be adopted.

 

It was agreed, — That the Committee will not meet on Tuesday, March 22, 2011.

 

It was agreed, — That on Thursday, March 24, 2011, the Minister of Health, departmental officials and other related agencies appear before the Committee in relation to the Main Estimates 2011-12 and that all other previously planned meetings be moved forward by two (2) meetings.

 

At 4:57 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
